Loco A39 - Wired for Sound - 28th December 2013
A multi-camera "wired for sound" journey with the Irish Traction Group's locomotive A39, from Magnus' Grave to Downpatrick, calling at the Loop Platform along the way.
The journey is covered with three cameras to give some different angles. Note that speed was low, 25mph, but camera angles and positioning may make it look faster than it is. Check out the speedo on the far left of the cab if you don't believe me!

The Downpatrick & County Down Railway ran their annual Mince Pie Specials on Saturday, 28th December 2013. Traction was provided by the Irish Traction Group's GM loco B146 and A39. Services propelled out from Downpatrick along the South Line to Magnus' Grave and loco-first back to town.

A short video showing some views of the Irish Traction Group's GM loco B146 running light engine at Downpatrick on a Lapland Express day. The loco is seen running back from dropping off the Santa/Buffet set at the loop platform before heading along the line towards Inch Abbey. We then see 146 returning round the curve from the North Junction to the station.

Saturday 26th October was a wet day in Downpatrick. Very wet. One of the worst days I ever had the misfortune to film in! Despite this, the Downpatrick & County Down Railway's Halloween trains were still great fun, even if everyone did get a bit soggy in the process. A quick video showing Deutz diesel shunter G617 returning light engine from Magnus' Grave at the start of the Halloween Saturday operations this year. The loco had dropped off a generator for the lights and sound at the grave, and the brake van, and several volunteers who were to get very, very wet that day. Sorry for the wobbles, it was cold, and very wet that day!

Reminds me of when I was a kid. I used to drive A class to Navan and Kingsourt as a 7-9 year old. My dad would sit reading the paper and tell me when to go up and down the gears and when to apply breaks. Happy times :)

Andy Roid We did lose a wagon after metal thieves stole bits off it, and a couple of carriages were lost in an arson attack, including the last remaining 70-class driving trailer. Not sure of anything else.

Sounds a little bit like a Maybach. In some ways, it's a shame there are different gauges in NI and the mainland. It would be nice to have this for an East Lancs diesel gala! Interestingly, they have got a re-gauged NI thumper. I'm not sure what the plan is there!
I think they got it for parts! The thumper I mean. We like the gauge difference, it keeps you narrow gauge people from stealing our stock. :)

William, thanks! The A Class were rebuilt with GM engines, so the CoBo will sound a bit different with it's Crossley power unit.
+Mike Beckett To hear what the Crossley engine sounded like have a look for the X class loco of the Australian railway. The Aussies modified the non return valve in the induction system to cure a lot of the engines problems. This Loco sounds great and ironically the replacement engine is a supercharged 2-stroke but this one works properly.
other then horse power whats the difference between the GM engines that the 001 and 201 class locos were re-engined with after the failure of the crossley ones
001 is a 6 axle Co-Co locomotive with a 12-645E (V12) derated to 1350hp (nominally 1500hp), 201 is a 4 axle Bo-Bo with an 8-645E (V8) of 1100hp
